Dear Dad ,

Every year
I write you a letter
I don’t just do it to make myself feel better
I want the world to know
That you will always live on
In the words of each poem
In the lyrics of each song
I am grateful to be your daughter
I say it in present tense
Because in my heart you still exist
In my spirit you have made an imprint
I am grateful to have known you
To have been loved by you
And though I wasn’t perfect
You loved me still
And showed me that love is thicker than blood
Ever will
Be
Because you loved me
More than those who have shared my DNA
You have loved me more than some who may have my last name
And this is in no way me pointing a finger or placing any blame
This is me giving honor to where it is due
With you
Dad, Daddy , Father
Let my life
And every accomplishment
And every dream come true
And every success
Honor you
As it honors God
You were always chasing Him
Wanting to get to know Him
Looking in every religion
And when I saw you that last day
With the biggest smile on your face
I could tell you finally found your way
And though tears filled my eyes
And sorrow filled my heart
I had this intense feeling
That you were still not that far
That I would see you again
In Gods perfect timing
On that glorious day
And we can praise Him together
And lift up His name
Until then
Here I am
Here I will be
As long as God allows it to be
Writing you every year
On your birthday
