Community ♥

Tonight  I’m spending the weekend and tonight babysitting my God daughter. I love baby sitting her , she is a ball of fire and energy , the only pause button is sleep. Today we spent the night in karaoke and even making original songs, freestyle! The song I wrote tonight is one of those I wrote by freestyling to some random beat on youtube.

I love children because they remind me of hope, of potential, if trained the right way, loved the right way, shown the right way, they have the potential to come into their purpose at an early age and not only come into the knowledge of it but prosper and thrive in it . As a sociologist in college there is a term that is nature vs nurture and one can argue which one is more important to the growth of a child. The nature in which they grow up in the neighborhood, city, country, etc. Or the nurture, the way they grew up, by parents who loved, with a nanny, it’s about how they were raised not where.

As an adult I am now aware of my parents struggles financially, emotionally, spiritually growing up but as a child I was so loved the nature of where I was always irrelevant. I felt protected I felt loved, I felt secure. We could be homeless, almost always lived in the inner city, we weren’t the richest economically but I felt rich, I had a mother who always spoiled me and a father who made time for me. I had siblings you looked out for me. It is that same love that compels me to love.

Especially this little girl who has had to experience more in her 10 years than I ever had at that age.  And so, I love her, so much, I spend time with her let her know she is loved she is wanted and she has potential. God made her fearfully and wonderfully, she is beautiful.  When her gifts are displayed I water them , encourage them , challenge them . Time, is the best gift you can give a child. Children need and often just want time, with someone who genuinely wants to spend time with them.

The conclusion is this that  nature vs nurture doesn’t much matter as much as COMMUNITY does. It takes a community to raise a child, protect a child, to train a child. If there is a community raising a child , then there will always be someone who genuinely wants to spend time with the child , there to pour into the child instead of the radio, or the tv, other outside influences . And so, I take my role in the community seriously as this little girls God Mother. And I am always blessed in return.  And so, I am praying for you to find your place in the community, embrace your role and make an impact faithfully
